In the NewsIf you have a Windows machine you simply have to go get Google Desktop. It indexes and lets you search your gigantic hard drive and with lightening speed. Read a great article here. Then get it at http://desktop.google.com/

You are fully aware of the business control risks associated with doing so. Google does not disclose that it is installing a search/web server on the users machine and this needs to be looked at very carefully before you use it or allow it to be used.

    Google Desktop Search

I agree Chris, on a machine that resides at home this is not an issue but a shared machine at a workplace is no place for the Google Desktop.

It does not respect User profiles.

Just something to know before deployment.

You are correct. Here is the URL from a desktop search: http://127.0.0.1:4664/search?q=slogger&s=2905003290. So it's a localhost.
